2024 Flu Season is Starting Early

The 2024 flu season is starting early, and warnings are it’s going to be a big one.

While Australian flu season is normally between May and October, the data is showing flu season is starting early – and experts are warning it may be a big one.

A recent Sydney Morning Herald article has reported that data from the federal government’s National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System has revealed more than 28,400 flu notifications already this year already.

While it’s difficult to avoid infection all together, here are 12 ways you can minimise your risk of getting the flu (or reinfection for that matter!):

  1. Avoid having contact with others that are sick.
  2. Clean your hands regularly.
  3. Keep sanitiser handy while you are out.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  5. Clean your home and office regularly, particularly high traffic surfaces.
  6. Stay home when you’re sick to avoid spreading germs.
  7. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze.
  8. Practice good hygiene.
  9. Increase your immune boosting vitamins and nutrients.
  10. Prioritise sleep and implement good stress management strategies to avoid being run down.
  11. Exercise regularly.
  12. Get an air purifier to keep your air clean.

Why an air purifier is a must for your home or office during flu season.

As the flu is silent and invisible it can be hard to know what is circulating within the air you’re breathing. Combine this with the ability for viruses to survive several hours and spread easily, and you can start to see the benefits of cleaning the air around you.

Trusted by Australia’s leading healthcare facilities, INOVA Air Purifiers supported the health sector through the COVID crisis and helped thousands of Australians during the intense 2019-2020 bushfire season.

Featuring the largest medical-grade HEPA filter and the biggest high-capacity activated carbon filters, INOVA air purifiers filter out more impurities from your air and have the longest filter life and the lowest operating costs. When was the last time you changed your filters?

If you use your air purifier regularly and you haven’t done a filter change for a while, then now might be a good time to change your filters. To ensure your air purifier continues to operate effectively and efficiently, you need to replace your filters regularly.

For INOVA air purifiers Pre-Filters should be changed every six months, carbon filters should be changed every 1-3 years and HEPA filters should be changed every 3-5 years. You can find out more with our filter maintenance guide or shop replacement filters here
